aww...pasture grass

Yesterday afternoon, we took down the fence and the reds attacked the area...they love this type of grass.  We closed the gate to their larger area and reseeded it.  All the roosters will be processed in 2 weeks and we'll combine all the hens...this should be interesting.

chickens and feed box

These leghorn roosters are so mean...they pick on everyone...I can't wait until they are in the freezer!  The pasture grass in the background is for the red hens...we reseeded that area 3 weeks ago and the hens can't wait for us to remove the construction fence keeping them out.
This hen has gray legs and beautiful feathers...we don't know what kind of chicken she is...she was mixed in with the dominiques.
One of the dominique roosters.
DH built this feed box for me last weekend, so I've been painting it the past couple of days...it's going to need another coat of red paint.

This past Friday, DH and I went to Froberg's Farm in Alvin to pick strawberries...it was the last weekend that they were allowing customers to pick their own strawberries.
These strawberries are so yummy...there's nothing like fresh fruit.
I painted this little girl dragging her knee board down to the beach about a week ago...I'm not happy with it, so it's probably going to get washed off.  7x5 pastel on Pastelbord.

woodpecker

I heard this woodpecker yesterday afternoon...it sounded like he was drilling the tree!  I haven't seen one around since Ike left his mess in our yard.

Update on chicken eggs...I started selling our eggs...I can't believe how many people want fresh eggs!  I can't keep up with the demand!  The eggs that they lay in the next 6 days are already sold!

pastel painting

I started painting this figure on the beach yesterday...it still needs some tweaking, but it sure felt good to get back in my art room.  I used a photo of Britt and a photo that I had taken on Bolivar a few years ago.  9x12 on pastelbord (i didn't misspell board...there isn't an "a" in pastelbord.)  This was my first time to try pastelbord and I must say I really like this surface.

eggs

The hens are laying at least a dozen eggs a day...and as you can see they lay different sizes.  The small egg is really small...it's the smallest so far...I watched that hen lay that egg last Friday.  On average the egg in the center is the size egg they are laying right now.  The large egg had 2 yokes in it.  There is nothing like fresh eggs!
