pastel painting

I started painting this figure on the beach yesterday...it still needs some tweaking, but it sure felt good to get back in my art room.  I used a photo of Britt and a photo that I had taken on Bolivar a few years ago.  9x12 on pastelbord (i didn't misspell board...there isn't an "a" in pastelbord.)  This was my first time to try pastelbord and I must say I really like this surface.

The one thing I like the most about pastels is I can leave them out and walk away and nothing will happen to them, unlike oils, watercolors and acrylics.  My reference photo is of Kris sitting on her bed looking out the window in a robe...I wanted to work on skin tones.  I left the background very loose and abstract like.
