last day of july

Where does time go?! I can't believe it's the end of July! K will be heading back to college in about 2 weeks...it just seems like yesterday, I was taking her to pre-school! Here's another face for my little face book. Your probably wondering what all the writing is...well, it's from poems that I read everyday, so I just pick and choose whatever grabs my attention that day. I noticed last night that one of my book of poems has been to Hawaii. I found an insurance card in it with the ladies name and address...I know that wasn't it's last destination...I bought it from a used bookstore in Oregon.

found

I picked this pair of wings up this morning while out walking...I sure wish I could somehow strap them on and fly to a place that's cooler and has more rainfall. I'm not looking forward to the next couple of months...its been so HOT and HUMID here and it's only going to get worse. I'm not a summer person...one month is all I need...longing for Winter!

a face

First face in my mixed media face book. 7x5...she's small, but I had fun creating her.

awww...rain!

I just cleaned off my art table, but before I did, I decided to take a picture of all the stuff I've been working on this week. The book standing up is made from watercolor paper attached to mat board with PVA glue and has 3 coats of gesso on each page...it's going to be my little book of faces...it's 7x5. The wire, fabric, hammer, pliers, etc. are for some wire wrapping I've been playing around with.
There's nothing like a good book and cup of tea on a rainy day...it's rained the past 2 days...YAY! I love rain!
Can you imagine having to carry your home around with you? No wonder snails move so slow!
K made this hand print on a potholder when she was in pre-school...she's now 18 years old and her hand isn't much bigger.
DH was cleaning the driveway with the power washer trying to get rid of all the grape stains. I wonder if this is his way of trying to be creative?!

faces

I decided to post a couple of my faces sketches since I haven't posted any in awhile. I plan on using this face in a mixed media painting...

I sketched this profile from a photo on someones blog.

looking down

You never know what you will find when you are looking down. Yesterday, I found this heart shaped leaf when I was outside walking around with Buckles. I find it interesting to look for different shapes while in outside.
I have jury duty today...grrrrr! I had to be at the courthouse in Angleton at 8:15am...at 8:35am a group of us were told to come back at 1pm...grrrr! I couldn't think of what I would do for 4 1/2 hours, so I came home. I'm not looking forward to driving back there...it takes about 45 minutes and they only pay you $10 a day...that doesn't even cover the cost of gas driving there the first time. I'm hoping I can make a bad impression when the attorneys start asking questions and they'll let me go!!

just my 2 cents...

K, DH and I saw the new Batman movie yesterday and I must say WOW! I thought Christian Bale did an amazing job as Batman...just like in Batman Begins. I had just read a movie review in the Houston Chronicle before we left to go see the movie and all they could talk about was Heath Ledger...now don't get me wrong, Heath does a great job as the joker, but it's all about Batman. K and I just couldn't get enough of Batman, so we watched Batman Begins last night on DVD. I think Christian Bale is the best Batman ever! If you haven't seen The Dark Knight...go see it...you won't be disappointed. I think this movie will be the best movie of the summer...DH says wait till the Mummy comes out on August 1st...we'll see. Just my 2 cents...

random pictures

I was outside one night playing around with my camera when I captured the moon.
We have a glass block window in our bathroom and I noticed the sunlight dancing around in my tube...if you look close enough, you can see the glass blocks and me.
I can't imagine not having hands...these are K's...she was working on her first collage...
And these are mine...I was finishing the first Saturday Sock...I'm hoping to finish this pair of socks by the end of July.
I need a treat Mommy!
I set my camera on the ground so I could get a different perspective of all these grapes on the driveway. I'm having everyone check their feet before they come in the house...Buckles was walking around in them one day and had grape juice all over his paws.
My second mixed media painting...I'm not happy with it...I don't even know why I'm posting it...it's probably going to get gesso'ed and a new face.

weekly

Who's that masked man? It's just DH...we are going to drill a water well to water the grass and flowers. We've had very little precious rain this summer, so instead of using the city's water we are drilling a well.

K went to Bolivar over the 4th of July weekend with some friends and she brought back this sea glass that Kacey's Mom searches for every morning. I must say, I'm a little envious of her Mom, she spends days on Bolivar at their beach house just combing the beach. I'm almost finished reading a book called Beachcombing at Miramar.

I took this picture one evening while the sun was setting behind our berm. I'll probably only post once a week from now on...I just have too many other things to do besides post to my blog, so check back weekly. I'm working on another mixed media painting...I'll post it as soon as I'm happy with it...right now I don't like the face.

hope

9X12 mixed media, watercolor paper mounted on gator foam hardboard

This piece of artwork was inspired by a poem written by Emily Dickinson called HOPE.

HOPE is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul,

And sings the tune without the words,

And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;

And sore must be the storm.

That could abash the little bird

That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,

And on the strangest sea;

Yet, never, in extremity,

It asked a crumb of me.

I used acrylics, papers, gel pen, pencil, china marker, crayon and different types of objects for stamping. I couldn't possibly tell you how many layers were applied to this piece of artwork...

little things....

I'm still working on my mixed media painting...I should be finished with it today. Here are a few pictures from the past few days.
