First day of school

Britt and Kris start the Fall semester today...Britt is a senior and Kris is a junior in college. I took this picture the first day of school when they were going into 2nd and 4th grade. Look how excited Kris was...that's about how excited she is today. Yesterday she was all doom and gloom...her summer is over.

I think back to almost 4 years ago, when I couldn't draw at all or I thought I couldn't. Anyone can learn to draw/sketch...it's just like learning to read. One of my favorite things to sketch is people.

random wednesday...

"I can't see!" Well, open your eyes Buckles! If I'm sitting at my desk, Buckles is always under it.
"I'm waiting Mom." Chance was waiting in the chair for me to sit down to read. This chair is as old as Britt.
I read this book last week...it's now a movie, but I don't think I want to see it...too sad.
Have you ever really looked at the different colors in the sky at dawn? I watch it all the time! That is what inspired me to paint this piece and the movie Pride and Prejudice. I listen to the soundtrack while I'm painting. I started working on a 24x24 acrylic painting that will look similar to the smaller 8x10 sitting below it. I love the pink sky!

I thought Penelope would lay white eggs, but I was mistaken, she lays brown eggs. I stalked her one day trying to catch her laying. I know she's part leghorn and I think dominique.
DH is "hen pecked" by Mildred...he's always giving her "special treats" just because she talks to him all the time. She's nothing but a tattle tale according to the reds. Yes I know, I have a vivid imagination.

a dive

Yesterday, DH, Kris and I ate at Lankford's Grocery, which was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives this past Sunday. It was so busy, that we decided to go ahead and eat outside. After about 15 minutes, we wished we would have waited to eat inside, it was so hot and humid. It was definitely a dive, but had good food! My cheeseburger was oozing all over the place and the onions rings were some of the best I've ever had.

I am so excited that it has rained three days this week! I ran outside one of the days and took this picture of a puddle, before it quickly seeped into the ground.

I remember when Britt & Kris watched Bill Nye the Science Guy on PBS when they were little. Now, I watch his program "Stuff Happens" on Planet Green...one of my favorite TV channels.

doodling at the apple store

On July 21st, I spilled coffee in my MacBook while opening the e-mail that contained the amount of our electric bill. I was so stunned that while trying to place my mug on the coaster on my desk, I spilled a small amount into the keyboard. Grrrrr! The keys became all sticky and by the afternoon the keys wouldn't do anything, so off I went to the apple store the next day. Luckily, they only had to replace the keyboard, and it was ready the next morning! I realized this past weekend that the dvd slot wasn't operating correctly, so off to the apple store again. I did this sketch yesterday while waiting to talk to one of the geeky guys. He was really nice and was able to fix it within 10 minutes. Hopefully, I won't be visiting the Genius Bar for a long time. Oh, and I no longer drink anything while using my MacBook!

She was reading from the podium at a White House Poetry Jam night on May 12, 2009. The shirt she had on looked like it had spiderwebs on it and was off one of her shoulders and those earrings.
